Andrew Baggarly of CSNBayArea.com is reporting the San Francisco Giants have signed right-handed pitcher Jon Meloan to a minor league deal.
Meloan was a top prospect with the Los Angeles Dodgers having made his Major League debut with them on September 1, 2007. The 29-year-old spent the 2008 season with the Cleveland Indians and 2009 campaign playing for the Oakland A's. He has not pitched in the big leagues since 2009 owning a 0-0 record displaying a 4.58 ERA in 13 games. Meloan allowed 11 hits, 10 runs, one homer and 20 strikeouts with the opposition batting .183 in 17.2 innings.
Meloan spent the 2012 season in the minors splitting time with the Trenton Thunder of Double-A and the Scranton/Wilkes Barre of Triple-A, both affiliates of the New York Yankees. He went 0-0 showcasing a 3.70 ERA in 21 games yielding 26 hits, 11 runs, two homers, 27 strikeouts, recording four saves and opponents batted .265 off him in 24.1 innings.
