San Francisco Giants reliever Sergio Romo was cited and detained by police briefly on New Year's Day last week at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas after failing to produce proper identification and arguing with security.
TMZ broke the story last week where Romo argued with a Transportation Security Administration officer before being handcuffed by police. The 29-year-old was taken to the airport police station where he was cited for violating airport rules and was released.
Romo issued the following statement through the Giants:
"I would like to sincerely apologize about the recent events at the Las Vegas airport which brought negative attention to the San Francisco Giants organziation and its fans," Romo said. "I love and respect the Giants, my teammates and our fans and promise to conduct myself in the future in the "San Francisco Giants Way."
