Realbeer.com is reporting the San Francisco Giants and Anchor Brewing have announced plans to build a brewery across McCovey Cove at Pier 48.
According to the story, Anchor Brewing will occupy Pier 48 with production and distribution facilities, a restaurant, museum and other public attractions. The 212,000-square-foot space in the Giants' Mission Rock development will not replace Anchor's existing plant on Potrero Hill, but add capacity. The company's output would quadruple from 120,000 to 600,000 barrels a year.
CEO Keith Greggor told the San Francisco Chronicle, "This is big news for us. We can now further expand our domestic market and open up new international markets. It's also a huge commitment to San Francisco,"
If all plans go accordingly and get approved, construction could begin in late 2014 and open up in 2016.
