San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced Monday All-Star pitcher Matt Cain will start the season opener in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Monday April 1st.
Cain will be making his first Opening Day start of his career replacing Tim Lincecum who pitched the previous four season openers. The right-hander will be facing the Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw who went 14-9 with a 2.53 ERA last season.
Cain owns a 4-8 record displaying a 3.41 ERA in 23 career starts facing the Dodgers and is 4-0 in his last nine starts against them producing a 2.20 ERA. Cain lost his first eight decisions against the Dodgers before finally beating them in 2010 and is 2-2 with a 3.05 ERA in 11 career starts at Dodger Stadium.
